Clifton Eugene Ruffin

Clifton Eugene Ruffin, Sr., age 80, of Rocky Mount, NC, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015. Born September 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas Dixon Ruffin and Nellie Crickmore Ruffin. In addition to his parents, Clifton was predeceased by sisters, Esther Lee R. Macklin and Ethel R. Webb and brothers, Willie Thomas Ruffin and R.W. "Dutch" Ruffin. Clifton was a longtime member of Oakdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. In his younger days, he enjoyed chaperoning youth trips to Ft. Caswell . He was employed for forty plus years by Carolina Telephone, where he retired as a senior engineer in 1994. He enjoyed softball, horseshoes, fishing, driving for Bobby Murray, gardening, crossword puzzles, spending time with his family and sitting in his recliner with his "grand-dog" Jack. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 56 years, Linda Daughtridge Ruffin of Rocky Mount, NC; daughters, Angie L. Ruffin, Rose M. Ruffin and Lisa R. Whitley and husband, Wayne all of Rocky Mount, NC; son, Clifton "Kip" Ruffin, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Macclesfield, NC and his grandchildren, Carrie L. Manning, Bryce Manning and Matt Ruffin. He is survived by his sister, Emily R. Rose of Tarboro, NC and his brother, Melvin Ruffin and his wife, Ellen of Carrollton, VA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at Oakdale Baptist Church, 13037 U.S. Highway 64 Alternate West, Rocky Mount, NC with Rev. Tim Barnette, Rev. Roy Porter and Rev. Joe Price officiating. Burial will follow the services at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC.
