Albert Vernon Edwards

Albert Vernon Edwards, age 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 26, 2013. Born in Robeson County on July 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Samuel Cary Edwards and Artie L. Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Edward; and sister, Veronia Turner.
Albert was a veteran of the 82nd Airborne, having served in the Korean War. He was a deacon in his church, who loved fishing, woodworking, and bird-watching.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Jimmie Baxley Edwards; daughters, Carol Lancaster (Joe) of Raleigh and Nancy Rhodes (Charles) of Concord; sons, William Edwards (Margaret) of Rocky Mount and Ronnie Edwards (Teresa) of Nashville; grandchildren, Emily Brooks Cook, Natalie Carol Williams and Abigail Joseph Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hunter, Mason and Ava; and sister, Barbara Gillford of Rocky Mount. He also leaves behind his best friend Tigger.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6:00pm - 8:00pm Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Albert will be held at 2:00pm Sunday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Dees officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
