ROCKY MOUNT - Dorothy K. Perry, age 93, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Born in Wake County, NC on June 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Alfred Keith and Maude Myrtle Keith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otho Alton Perry; great-grandson, William Allen Carter; sisters, Ruby Stephenson, Lucille Thompson, Ruth Mae White, and Lottie Pearce; and brothers, Raymond Keith, Jack Keith, John Keith, and Graham Keith.
Dorothy grew up in Oak Grove Baptist Church, Youngsville, NC. A move to Rocky Mount in 1958 opened a door for a new church family - The First Baptist Church. She was active in many church activities, Sunday School, small group Bible Study, Inspiration Singers, WMU, and even helping with the choir robes for the 11:00 oclock worship service.
Dorothy was energetic and had many hobbies: sewing, quilting, and handwork. She made quilts and crocheted afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She quilted special memory quilts as well.
She had a great love for flowers especially roses and daffodils. Her rose bushes are over 50 years old and had blooms yearly on her grandsons birthday in late November for many years. Springtime in her backyard was a beauty showcasing of azaleas, gardenias, holly hocks, annuals and many potted plants, especially her “prized snake plants”.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking but her specialty was pecan pies. She enjoyed making the pies but more enjoyment was sharing them with others.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters, Sandra Cutts; and June Dawson and husband, Mike. She is also survived by three grandsons, William R. Carter and wife, Julie; J. Perry Carter and wife, Kathleen; and Michael Dawson; eight great-grandchildren, Breanna and Eion Carter; Samantha, Jonathan and Trey Carter; Syler, Hayden and Brody Dawson; and many special nieces and nephews.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
Sending this message on behalf of my sister, Cleo Matthews. Cleo was so sad to hear about Dot’s passing. She and I send our condolences to Sandra and June and the rest of the family. We are thinking of you. Nancy Ellis
Sandra and June, Sorry I didn’t get the telephone message (too complicated to explain in an email) until yesterday, Sunday, 212). I do want you both to know that I am sorry for your loss but happy for you because of the beautiful memories Dorothy left for you and your families. She was a lovely person and one whose life I will always cherish, just by knowing her. I know this is a difficult time for you, but dwell on the good memories, as she would want you to do. Love to you all, Jean Rock
