Martha Lane Parker, beloved wife, mother and sister, age 80, passed away on January 19th peacefully in her sleep after battling congestive heart failure.
She was born on April 14, 1936, in Edgecombe County, to the late Robert David Lane, Sr. and Channie Biggs Lane. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two children and four sisters; Mary L. Denty, Frances L. Joyner, Louise L. Royer and Nancy L. Manning; three brothers; Robert David Lane, Jr., Arthur Laurence Lane and Joseph Stanley Lane, Sr., four sister-in-laws; Becky, Mary R., Dot and Faye Lane.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her beloved husband Jimmy T. Parker, Sr. of 61 years, her five sons; Jimmy Thomas Parker, Jr. (Tommy) wife Teresa: Walter G. Parker wife Theresa; Donald R. Parker fianc Fran; Richard L. Parker, wife Kathy; Robert M. Parker and wife Corrye, one brother Richard (Dickie) Lane and two brothers-in-laws; Joe Royer and Don Manning; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with very special nieces and nephews.
Special longtime friends Margaret Flora and Linda Pike.
She graduated in 1955 from Rocky Mount Senior High, where she enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band and school softball. She continued playing softball for several teams in Rocky Mount after graduation. Crocheting lots of lap blankets for the elderly at Guardian Care Nursing home brought her much joy knowing she was making someone smile. She had a strong love for working cross-word puzzles and putting together regular puzzles, the harder the puzzle the better. She shared lots of memories with Jimmy staying in her camper at the beach gazing out at the boats, bird watching and listening to the ocean. She looked forward to her yearly trips to the mountains for apples and cabbage. She left behind her little fur baby Lil Bit to take care of Jimmy.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Pridgen officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.
Flowers are welcomed but she asked that donations be sent to Vidant Health Service League of Greenville (Hospice), 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834 or Community Home Care Hospice, 2479 Hurt Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 in her memory.
