George Edward Millard

George Edward Millard, 84 passed away on January 17, 2017. He died at peace after a brief illness. George was born April 2, 1932 in Garber, Oklahoma. Parents Ivan Edward Millard and Vivian Irene Millard both deceased. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Psychology/Special Education and had positions in Oklahoma and Texas with psychological services in various positions. He also taught psychology classes in several colleges. The majority of his career encompassed teaching, training and counseling. He worked with the Child Study Center in Texas working with children and their parents. He also worked for the State of Oklahoma Vocational Rehabilitation and with the Fountain Correctional Center for Women in Rocky Mount. He was involved with training courses for Community Health Representatives for the Five Civilized Tribes and the Western Tribal Association of Oklahoma. He served in the United States Coast Guard with the rank of LTJG. He also served as a football, assistant wrestling and assistant baseball coach with the Coast Guard. He loved God and was active in several positions in churches in other states where he lived. He had a passion for golf. He enjoyed a good game of golf at his home golf course and anywhere he was visiting and met many wonderful people along the way. He recently worked at Belmont Lake Golf Club as a ranger and other assorted positions. Those who remain to celebrate his life include his companion Sharon Thorpe. Also his extended family: Lisa Piatkowski, Tony Johnston; Kimberlea Bauer and his “adopted” grandchildren Gillian and Gavin Bauer. He will be missed by all friends and his “fur children” Jezebel, Maggie May and Mad Max. A special thanks to the nurses and nursing assistants at Nash UNC Health Care. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at The Main Course at Belmont Lake Gold Club, 201 Belmont Club Way, Rocky Mount.
