ROCKY MOUNT - Julia Krawec Hines, age 96, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016. Born in Sylvan, Manitoba, Canada on December 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Michael Krawec and Anastasia Zapotochny Krawec. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hines; brothers, John Krawec, Dmytro Krawec, and Paul Krawec; and sisters, Annie Metza and Mary Lucyk.
Julia met her husband, John, on a train in Canada, during World War II. After a courtship lasting for the duration of the war, they were married almost 41 years, until Johns passing in 1987. Julia was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and truly had a servants heart. Through the years, she attended to different needs of her church and volunteered in many ways, including delivering Meals on Wheels. She was quick to help family and friends in need, in whatever capacity she could.
Known to her family as “Baba”, she shared many stories of her life, and her Ukrainian heritage, from growing up on the family farm in Canada, to raising her family here in North Carolina. Having lived through the Great Depression, World War II, and all the changes since, her stories and words of wisdom should remain with us always. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the members of The Legion of Mary for their ministry in providing Julia with communion and fellowship through the past few years.
Julia leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, John W. Hines, Jr. and wife, Jin, of Danville, VA; and Michael Hines and wife, Donna, of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by six grandchildren, John W. Hines III and wife, Jamie, of Richmond, VA; Galen Scott Hines of Tarboro; Karen H. Beyer and husband, Blake, of Atlanta, GA; Michael Brandon Hines and wife, Joy, of Rocky Mount; Christopher Hines and wife, Cathryn of Charleston, SC; and Jennifer Lacy Hines of Rocky Mount; eight great-grandchildren, Bryan, Briana, Dawson, Nathaniel and William Hines; Katherine, Matthew and Isabelle Beyer; brothers, Tony Krawec and wife Ollie; and Walter Krawec and wife, Krystyna, both of Winnipeg, Manitoba; plus a host of nieces and nephews, too numerous to name.

Very sorry to hear about Auntie Julia’s passing. She was my favorite aunt and I had many memories of her from her visits to the farm in Manitoba and her visit to Thunder Bay with Brandon. She was always an upbeat person and enjoyed life. My husband and I would like to express our condolences to you, Michael and John and to your families. Gordon and Judy (Lucyk) Johnson.

I want to send my deepest sympathy to the family of Julia Krawec Hines. The bible tells us we can gain comfort from God, even during times of sorrow. We pray to our heavenly father for help to cope with the sorrow felt from the death of a loved one. By prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. Philippians 46 May you find comfort by relying on our heavenly father and learning more about the blessings of God’s kingdom. Local ministry volunteer
I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 258. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.
