ROCKY MOUNT - Annie Vines Smith, age 66, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Born in Scotland Neck, Halifax County, NC on April 21, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James Vines, Jr. and Pearline Daniels Vines.
Annie retired from the City of Rocky Mount as a sanitation truck driver. A dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and confidante, Annie cherished her family and friends. Their regular calls, chats, and visits meant the world to her. She made it a daily practice to call and check on her loved ones. She would even call to sing Happy Birthday to them. Annie loved eating at the Mayflower and the Sandpiper. She also LOVED playing cards. The apple of her eye was her grandson, Tookie. Annie will be missed by all who knew her. Her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family and adored by countless friends.
Annie leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Mildred “Millie” Smith of Memphis, TN and Jeannetta Smith of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by her grandson, LeVallian “Tookie” Thomas; her brothers, Glenn Vines; David Vines (Dollicia); John Henry Vines (Sheila); Arthur Vines (Mary); and James Vines, III (Belle); her sisters, Barbara Harris (Samuel); Christine Clark; Mary Powell; Bertha Conway; Elaine Vines; Catrina Vines; and Dorothy Vines; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also blessed with ten surviving Aunts and two Uncles. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosie Vines and nephew, Brandon Vines.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM prior to the service. During the service, family and friends are welcome to share fond memories and or messages of condolence.
The family wishes to humbly acknowledge the many expressions of love and sympathy received during this emotional time. Thank you for the prayers, cards, food, visits, contributions and many other acts of kindness shown. All these help us find strength and comfort as we grieve the loss of our Special Angel. We grew up with our cousin Annie Rene in Scotland Neck. She had a wonderful spirit and was a deeply caring woman. Sugar Lump I just can’t believe that you are gone home to be with The GREAT MAN himself!!
