Rocky Mount - George Roosevelt Batts, III, age 51, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on December 13, 1964, he was the son of George Roosevelt Batts, Jr. and Frances Jackson Batts.
George retired from the US Air Force with 20 years of service as a load master. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He received the many medals during his service: Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. George also attended Wayne Community College and Edgecombe Community College. He enjoyed learning and was an avid reader. George was a member of Englewood Presbyterian Church. He will be missed by his family and friends but will never be forgotten.
Along with his parents, George leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Brianna Frances Batts, TX; his sister, Sandra Batts Lepley and husband, Chet, of Garner; aunt, Barbara Williamson of Wilson; and uncles, Melvin E. Jackson, Jr. of Norfolk, VA and Gary T. Batts of Hampton, VA.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Englewood Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount with the Dr. Robert Westlund, pastor of Englewood Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4200 Morganton Road, #300, Fayetteville, NC 28314.
