Whitakers - Andrew “Drew” Davenport, Jr., age 62, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Born in Edgecombe County, NC, on September 26, 1953, he was the son of the late Andrew “Billy” Davenport, Sr. and Peggy Marks Davenport.
Drew worked for the Department of Corrections for over 30 years. He was with the Whitakers Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years. He also was a member of the Stoney Creek Fire Rescue Department and served with the Enfield Rescue Squad for many years. He was what one would call a “true country boy”. He was a huge NASCAR Jimmie Johnson fan. He enjoyed “working” on his John Deere tractor. He was a life time member and dedicated deacon of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Drew loved his family and was very proud of his daughters. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Drew leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 33 years, Robin Perry Davenport; his daughters, Deana Davenport of Whitakers; and Andrea Davenport of Whitakers. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob Davenport and wife, Rebecca, of Wake Forest; and Ray Davenport and wife, Cindy, of Grifton; his Aunt Lou Johnson of Whitakers; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Missi.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Rev. Joe Proctor and Rev. Gene Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.

Have known the Davenport Family my whole life. Drew and I went to elementary school together for the 1st four years and church together until I married and moved away. Living in a small town and growing up in a small church we were all like one big family. We have a lot of fond memories of Drew and his family. They were also good neighbors to Ginger. He will be missed, but we will see him again.
We are sorry to hear about the loss of Drew. He was a deacon at our Church – Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a fine man and he was always willing to help anyone. He will surely be missed by us all. We will keep the Family in our thoughts and prayers. May God be with the Family during these difficult times.
Deana, When i saw your dad’s pic and viewed his tribute, I can only realize your dad can live on through you. Wish I could mend that hollow hole in your heart, but since I can’t I will lift you and your family’s name up in prayer. Drew, I will truly miss you. Robin, you and Drew are very special people with two terrific daughters. I forgot to do something for church and was fretting about it. Drew took my hand and said if that’s not the worst thing to happen, don’t worry about it. It was the smile behind the comment I will never forget.
