Robert Earl Weeks, Sr.

August 1, 1933 ~ August 14, 2019

ROCKY MOUNT - Robert Earl Weeks, Sr., age 86, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Born in Wilson County, NC on August 1, 1933, as the fifth of six children to John Silas Weeks and Edna Crumpler Weeks. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Joe Weeks and John Weeks; sisters, Martha Gupton and Mary Moore; and his grandson, Jon Eric Weeks. Robert attended and graduated from Elm City High School. Not long after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp during the summer of 1953 while the nation was still at war in Korea. Reflecting back, Robert remembered his days in the service very fondly. He served three years in Active Duty and then another five years as Marine Reserve before finishing his service as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp in 1961. During his years in the service, Robert managed to meet and marry Jean Robbins with whom he had his four children. Once out of the service, and raising a family, Robert began his career with A&P Grocery Store in Rocky Mount and retired as a produce manager. After retirement, he begin an endeavor into his own taxidermy business. What had once been a sideline in years past, quickly became almost another full-time career. Robert was an avid outdoorsman from the time of his youth, there was nothing he enjoyed more than to be out hunting or fishing, and it showed in his passion for his taxidermy work. The only thing he loved as much as his work, were the many friendships he formed throughout the years. It would be hard pressed to find any avid hunter or fisherman in Nash County, who hadn't spent a few hours in Robert's workshop talking about the day's catch or just telling jokes and stories. Many of these friendships would last a lifetime. Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Robert E. Weeks, Jr., Daniel W. Weeks and wife, Angela, of Nashville, Michael A. Weeks and wife, Poppie, and granddaughter, Lila Weeks of Kure Beach; and daughter, Cynthia Weeks Skinner and husband, David; brother, Linwood Weeks and wife, Mary Alice, of Rocky Mount.
