July 22, 1938 ~ January 10, 2026

Born in: Nash County, NC
Resided in: Rocky Mount, NC

Rocky Mount – Wilson Delano “Pete” Butler, age 87, went to be with the love of his life, Peggy, on Saturday, January 10, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on July 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Wilson John Butler and Pearl Futch Butler.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Williams Butler; his sisters, Emma Lee Butler, Bessie Lee Butler, Virginia Butler Lewis, and Violette Butler Howard; and his brothers, Johnnie Sylvester Butler and Dewey Kent Butler.

Pete was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by service, hard work, and quiet generosity. He was the owner of Butler Signs, which he proudly operated until selling the business in 1991. Even after retirement, he remained active and purposeful.  Alongside Peggy, Pete enjoyed traveling through Campers on Mission, serving wherever help was needed. He also gave his time and skills through the Baptist Men’s disaster relief efforts, always ready to step in during times of hardship. A man of many talents, Pete had a gift for fixing nearly anything and was a natural teacher and mentor. Many benefited from his patience, practical wisdom, and willingness to share what he knew. He also found great joy working with his blueberries, tending to them with the same care and dedication he showed in all areas of his life.

Pete’s life reflected his faith through action—serving others not for recognition, but because it was the right thing to do. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Pete will be remembered as a man who lived simply, served faithfully, and loved deeply. His legacy continues through the many lives he touched and the family he cherished.

Pete is survived by his sons, Joseph Wilson Butler and wife, Debra, of Winterville and Robert Wesley Butler of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Jackie Butler (Kayla), Patrick Joseph Butler, Christian Taylor Butler (Ashlyn), Justin Pollard (Abby), and Jacob “Evan” Edge; his great-grandchildren, Spencer Pollard, Mason Dixon, William Dixon, Wyatt Pollard, and Walter Pollard; several nieces and nephews; and Coco, his cat and faithful companion.
