Mr. Thrower was the son of William Alfred Thrower and May Denson Thrower of Rocky Mount, NC. He graduated from Rocky Mount High School and North Carolina State University. After retirement in 1994 from Nash-Rocky Mount Schools he went into the private sector and became Executive Director of the N.C. Principals and Assistant Principals Association in Raleigh. He was awarded the Ralph Kimmel Award and inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame. He also served on the Board of the State Employees Credit Union.
In the past, he was a member and officer of the Rocky Mount and President of the Rocky Mount Civitan Club. His hobbies included golf, model railroading, and anything to do with the Wolfpack!

Lloyd was one of the good guys that made education so great in Rocky Mount in the good old days. Rest in peace, Lloyd Dianne Siler Poland

Lloyd gave me my first job in education. He was such a wise man, and knew how to supervise, manage, and motivate people without micro-managing. He inspired me to become an administrator, and I tried to emulate many of his qualities throughout my career. He truly loved children, and was very proud of his own family. I will miss Lloyd so very much, and send my love to his family. The world has truly lost one of the good guys. Mary Ann (Pixie) Kannan
I enjoyed working with Lloyd over many years. He was always a friend and supporter. Always ready with advice and helpful information. Would do anything for anyone. His contacts were legion and almost always came through when he called. Most agreed that he was a mover and shaker at the local level as well as the state level. He truly cared about public education and those in the trenches who were striving every day to make a difference for the children. He never lost sight of the fact that it was the children who mattered regardless of what position we held. People respected that about him and looked up to him for his total commitment to public education. All of us who knew and worked with Lloyd are better people and were better educators for having had that opportunity. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jill and the family as you go through this sad time in your lives. Charles L and Chris S. Boyette
Mr. Thrower made junior high a wonderful place back in the early 1960s! I have so many great memories of things that Mr. Thrower would do at school. Rocky Mount has had so many great teachers and Lloyd Thrower was certainly right at the very top. Loved by students and teachers! Bishop Godwin
Mr. Thrower hired me in my first job as a teacher at Red Oak Elementary. He was one of the finest men I have ever known. His guidance as a principal inspired us daily to work more diligently to be better teachers and human beings! Mr. Thrower would always say hey teach whenever you saw him outside of school showing concern about what was going on with you and your life. We have certainly lost one of the absolute best!
