Walter Clyde Beck

Rocky Mount - Walter Clyde Beck, Jr., age 85, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Born in Archdale, NC on April 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Walter Clyde Beck, Sr. and Mozelle Tucker Beck. Walter attended Trinity, NC schools and graduated from Trinity High School. Following high school, he went and furthered his education and attended from the Guilford University in Greensboro, NC. A Veteran of the Korean War, Walter served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Taegu, South Korea. Upon completion of his service, he received his honorable discharge after having attained rank as a Staff Sergeant. Following his service, he returned to High Point and where he then attended High Point University. A man of high integrity, Walter went on to become a Treasury Agent for the United States Treasury Department where he continued his selfless service to his country for 27 years until his much deserved retirement. Walter was well liked and respected due to his fairness exhibited while working for the Internal Revenue Service, that following his retirement he would continue to stay busy being involved with his community by delivering for Rocky Mount wholesale florist as well as local auto parts stores. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rebecca Owens Beck; his two sons, Weldon Beck of Rocky Mount and Gregg Beck of Nags Head; and his daughter Margaret Beck and her special friend, Richard Pecorella, of Raleigh. He leaves to cherish his memory his three grandchildren, Celeste Beck Johnson and her husband, Jason, Weldon Cable Beck and Megan Beck, all of Rocky Mount; and three great-grandchildren, Lily and Mila Johnson, and Kadence Williams. He also leaves behind one sister, Fern Beck Brown of Valdese and her family. A Celebration of Walter's Life will be held on Wednesday afternoon, October 14, 2015 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 PM, with additional visitation following the service until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 420 Paul Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 or Animal Crackers, P. O. Box 8860, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. I have fond memories of him through the years and cherish our talks. He loved life and always had a kind word for everyone. He was extremely proud of his family and loved each of you so very much. May you find comfort in knowing that he is safe in the arms of our Heavenly Father now and reunited with love ones gone on before; and that one day we as Christians will also be reunited with them all.
