Rocky Mount – Violet Page Hawkins Gupton, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on October 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John Ervin Hawkins, Sr. and Eunice Dell Wood Hawkins.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 49 years, Ronald David Gupton; and her sisters, Annie Lou Hawkins Hollowell and Nancy Hawkins Gullie.

Violet was a faithful member of Edgemont Baptist Church and dearly loved her pastor, Mike Edwards, and the rest of her church family.  She was a great Grammie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Violet enjoyed good times with friends, eating out together or sharing coffee, and was happy spending time with her siblings as much as possible.  A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and dear friend to many, Violet will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Violet is survived by her daughters, Pam Gupton Batten and husband, John, and Carolyn Gupton Baker and husband, Chris; her grandchildren, Casey Baker (Lacey), Cale Baker (Faith), Nicholas Vickrey (Dana), and Drew Holleran; her great-grandchildren, Marli and Emma Baker (baby brother Baker due in April), Ellie Baker, Hayden Vickrey, and Zoey Vickrey; her sisters, Jackie Hawkins Southerland (Jimmy) and Kathy Hawkins Manning (Tim); her brothers, John Ervin “J.E.” Hawkins Jr. and Bruce Michael Hawkins; her sister-in-law, whom she considered a sister, Brenda Gupton Bunn; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dearest friends.

A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Violet’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating.  The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the home of Pam & John Batten, 8487 Bend of the River Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to Edgemont Baptist Church, P. O. Box 7293, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

The family would like to thank Centerwell Home Health (Lindsey and Tawana) and Gentiva Hospice (Janice, Susan, and Jackie) for all of the kindness, love and support given to not only Violet, but to her family as well.  We were all truly blessed to have such special caregivers by our sides every step of the way.

  4. Oh, what a great and wonderful lady. I have so many fond memories of our family visiting Rocky Mount and Violet being a part of all the festivities. Loved her sense of humor and simply being around her. I will treasure my memories of those times. May God bless and comfort this wonderful family.

    • Sending love and prayers….I have so many memories of Miss Violet…..she was a co-worker and friend of my Mom’s many many years ago. And in later years we worked at the same place! She was the sweetest, silly and sassy lady! Violet, say hi and give Mama a hug from me and tell her I love/miss her so much. Love, Donna

  6. Pam, Carolyn, and families: I was fortunate to know Violet from when we met at Union Baptist Church throughout time to the group lunch gatherings up to last year at Pizza Inn. She was a jewel and will be missed by all.
