Shelba Harper Parker

ROCKY MOUNT - Shelba Harper Parker, age 83, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on July 22, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Gorham Atkinson Harper and Retha Lillie Casey Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonus Steve Parker, Sr. A woman of great faith, Shelba was a longtime member of Westmount Baptist Church. Her vibrant spirit and kindness was felt by many through her acts of giving and caring for all those around her. Shelba always enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends as there was always an open chair at her table. In addition to cooking, she also enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing, and reading. A dearest and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and special friend to many, Shelba will be forever remembered and greatly missed. Shelba is survived by her daughters, Joy Parker Sherrod and her husband, Allen, of Tarboro and Angie Parker Large and her husband, Bobby, of Rocky Mount; her son Lonus Steve Parker, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Jamie Sherrod Coker and husband Kyle, Allie Sherrod Boykin and husband Matt, Corey Sherrod, Patrick Lawrence Parker and wife Lauren, Joshua Parker, Robbie Large and wife Christy, and Parker Large; great grandchildren, Leah and Jace Coker, Walker Boykin, Madison and Emma Large and Iydin, Layton, and Nollie Large; her sisters, Dianne Harper Iradi and husband Stanley and Vickie Harper Mosley and husband Fred; her brother Roland Harper; along with many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jordan Willard officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staffs of both Kindred Hospice and The Fountains at The Albemarle and the many relatives and friends who have continued to visit and keep Shelba in their prayers.
