Rubye Calhoun Todd

July 11, 1916 ~ June 14, 2017

ROCKY MOUNT - Rubye Calhoun Todd, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. A month shy of my 101st birthday, I stepped confidently into eternity. I lived a full life, all of it as an Edgecombe county girl, and was proud to call Rocky Mount home. After graduating from West Edgecombe High School in 1933, I was awarded a college scholarship but went to work for Mickey Dawson at Standard Drug Company. I enjoyed assisting him and was given a chance to become a pharmacist. But I was too afraid to take the test. I am glad todays young women are braver than I was at their age. I am proud of them. I enjoyed the love of family and friends. My husband, Romney Todd, was the love of my life and the most handsome man I ever met. Together we raised two beautiful daughters, Brenda and Linda, and enjoyed a grandson, Todd, and a great grandson, Taylor. My eight brothers and sisters were not just siblings, they were my best friends too. We laughed together, cried together, and made wonderful memories together I am survived by siblings, Cecil Calhoun, Ella Coats, and Gladys Shelton; daughter, Brenda and her husband Warren Weise; daughter, Linda Todd; grandson and his wife, Todd and Melynda Parks; great grandson, Taylor Parks; dear friends, John and Judy Williford; and many nieces and nephews. I worshiped at Proctors Chapel Baptist Church and was an active member of the West Edgecombe Homemakers Club. I am thankful for family and friends, particularly my extended family and Brookdale caregivers, for their kindness and support. I tried to live a life that honored Him, but I know I fell short. Still my grandson assures me that the Lord will greet me with, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” To those I leave behind, I look forward to you joining me in Heaven one day. I read that even the streets are paved with gold. Until then, cherish every moment and a live a full life. 1. Linda, Brenda and family members, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and in the coming days. Your mother was a very special lady, and I am so sad to know she is gone. I pray God’s blessings of peace and comfort, as you learn a new life’s routine without your mother here to share in it. Sending hugs. Jane Bulluck Wrenn
