Roy J. Tyson

ROCKY MOUNT - Roy J. Tyson, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on February 13, 1931, he was the son of the late Jack Franklin Tyson and Myrtie May Lamm Tyson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Moore Tyson; and brother, Julian C. Tyson. Roy was a longtime member of Parkwood Baptist Church as well as a member of the Evening Optimist Club. A life-long barber, he retired from cutting hair following over 50 years of service and was also a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Roy leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Michael Royce Tyson; and daughters, Maribeth Tyson Wooten and husband David, and April Dawn Tyson Exum and husband Ashe. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ashe B. Exum, III, Jordan Marie Exum, Andrew Christian Wooten and wife Ashley, Samantha Wooten Dorris and husband Duncan, and Michael Steven Tyson; his great grandson, Lawson Wooten; and sister-in-law, Dolly V. Tyson. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Roy's name to Parkwood Baptist Church, 1731 Hunter Hill Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   1. Mr. Roy is a very special man. He also was hard working and helped many years with our PBC chicken sales. It was such a blessing when he joined us in our Senior DMA Ministry gatherings.
