Robert Mikel Anderson

June 30, 1972 ~ February 24, 2023

ROCKY MOUNT – Robert “Mikel” Anderson, age 50, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023. He was born in Nash County, NC on June 30, 1972. Mikel was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wilkins “Mr. A.” Anderson; his grandparents, Monroe Summerlin, Katherine Summerlin, Robert A. Anderson, and Ola W. Anderson; and his aunt, Joanna Lynn Keith. After graduating from Rocky Mount Senior High School, Mikel studied electrical work at Wilson Tech and began his first job in the electrical field at Watson Electric. Over the years, he worked for many companies and improved his abilities so much that jobs would ask for him by name. Mikel never knew a stranger (even as a child). He would greet people with a beaming smile and firm handshake that made you feel at home. Mikel’s willingness to help others in need were met with compassion, urgency, and action. He truly cared for people and loved his family. Mikel was a son, brother, father, nephew, cousin, and close friend to so many. His outgoing personality with a silly, sassy, corny, or colorful joke was always followed by his unmistakable laugh that filled the room and encouraged more. Mikel’s bear hugs were sincere and snug. You felt safe, secure, and loved. Mikel spoke of prayers with our Lord and was saved through a church he attended with his friend, George. So, we know he is in a better place. We will always love him dearly and miss him deeply. Mikel is survived by his children, Robert Wesley Anderson, Samantha Joy Anderson, and Robert Dana Steeves (Katie Marie Sawyer); his grandchildren, Colton and Everleigh; his mother, Judith “Mrs. A.” Anderson; his sister, Sandra Anderson Turner (Mike Cain); his aunt, Diane Goude (Jimmy); his niece, Christian Turner; his great-niece, Jocelyn Abernathy; his great-nephew, Jack Arthur; and his cousins, Bryan Call (Katie), Jeoffrey Call (Sabrina), Harrison Call, Julia Call, and Luke Call. A Funeral Service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. George Greer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
