NASHVILLE - Robert Marshall Tyson, Sr., age 93, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on December 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Charlie Richard and Mamie Layton Tyson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Nellie Wheeless Tyson; brothers, Wayne Tyson, Randolph Tyson, Hubert Tyson, Willie Tyson, Richard Tyson, J. W. Bowden, Lewis Bowden, Ernest Bowden, and Alvin Tyson; and sisters, Bessie Bowden, Mozelle Bowden, Louise Bowden, Johnnie Belle Bowden, and Rochelle Tyson.
A man with great faith and a strong calling, Robert gave back to his Lord and Savior in many ways. From his beginnings with Sunset Baptist Church to his times spent with Macedonia Baptist Church and Circle Cross Cowboy Church he served as an ordained Deacon, Sunday school teacher, as a R.A. or Royal Ambassador to young men, and as a trustee. Robert was always friendly to all and well liked. Many around may remember him as the "little guy with the hat" from his service with Carolina Tire Company from which he retired after many years. He was also a longtime member of the Woodman of the World Fraternity. For many years he and his wife, Nellie, were known for presenting flags to various courthouses, churches, schools, and civic organizations in connection with his servitude to the Woodman of the World. A loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and friend to many, Robert will be forever missed but never forgotten.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, son, Marshall Tyson and wife, Dianne, of Clayton; grandchildren, Lauren King, Brad Tyson; son, Alfred Tyson and wife, Donna, of Nashville; grandchildren, Codey Tyson, Kella Tyson, Jason Yasser, Lauren Yasser; great-grandchildren, Alex Yasser, Gracelyn Yasser, and Barrett King; and boocoos of nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Tim Andrews and Rev. Keith Griffin officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services and other times at the home of Alfred and Donna Tyson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Circle Cross Cowboy Church, 6015 Old Bailey Highway, Nashville, NC 27856, and Nash Healthcare System Hospice and Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Thoughts and prayers for Mr. Tyson’s family and friends. I have not known him very long but I have known him long enough to know that he was a very kind Christian man. Mr. Robert was a great man. A servant of the LORD!!!! And a Great Father to many. He loved His LORD, His Family and His Church and People. He wanted to see People come to know Christ as their LORD and Savior!!!!!!!
Mr. Robert was one of the finest Christian Men I have ever known. Someone who always had a kind word and a contagious smile; a man who loved his Lord and served Him with love and obedience. We will miss you, but know that you are not in any pain and with your Lord praising Him. Alfred and Donna you are in my prayers for the days ahead

I am so sorry to hear of Robert’s death. He was one of the best men that I will ever meet. He always had a smile for everyone he met. My husband, William, and I knew him & Nellie through the Woodmen. He always had a helping hand in everything and the most caring of husbands when Nellie got sick. He will be greatly missed. RIP Robert
