Robert Franklin “Frank” Edge

January 11, 1931 ~ October 9, 2018

ROCKY MOUNT - Robert Franklin "Frank" Edge, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles P. Edge and Louise Walker Edge. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Emma Jean Brake Edge; and his brother, Dr. Charles E. Edge. Frank dedicated his life to serving those around him. As a veteran of the United States Navy to being an educator with the Nash County Schools, he believed in doing his part to help others. From his days in college where he attended both NC State and the University of North Carolina from which he obtained his master's degree, Frank recognized very early on the importance of education and would go about stressing that importance to the many children he would later teach and guide through his years at Benvenue Elementary, both as an educator and as a principal. His love and enjoyment for helping children was not limited to the inside of a classroom as very often you would find Frank offering guidance and mentorship to children almost anywhere around town. Following his retirement from the school system, along with wife, Jean, prior to her passing, he enjoyed traveling to the beach where they would remain for weeks at a time. Their love for one another and their children and grandchildren was evident by all who knew him. Frank was also one to never meet a stranger, and many memories were made with close friends whether it was during a round of golf, off away on a hunting trip, or simply casting a line out in hopes of bringing home a great catch or a great story. He was a great father, a loving grandfather, and an amazing friend to all. Frank leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Lisa Louise Edge, of Okinawa, Japan; son, Robert Walker Edge (Renee`) of Alamo, GA; and by his loving grandchildren, Meredith Christina Edge of Statesboro, GA and Evan Harrison Edge of Brunswick, GA.
