Robert Earl “Bob” Alford

Robert Earl "Bob" Alford, age 86, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Born in Halifax County, NC on January 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Charlie Cooper Alford and Bessie Hamlet Alford. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James Edward Alford, Charlie Clifton Alford, Julian Glynn Alford, William Cooper Alford, and Roy David Alford; his sisters, Nannie Alford Johnson and Louise Alford Wainwright; and his grandson, Ryan Smith. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired with Nationwide Insurance after 23 years of service. A man of great faith, he was a long-time member of West Mount Baptist Church where he served in many church capacities including, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, treasurer, and choir. Bob was a member of the West Mount Ruritan Club where he faithfully served for 44 years with perfect attendance. He was also honored with the Forever Ruritan Award. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Hudson Alford of Rocky Mount; his children, Rene' Alford Smith (Stanley) of Nashville, Dana Alford Worrell (Roger) of Sanford, Travis Alford (Gina) of Rocky Mount and Shannon Alford (Melanie) of Nashville; his grandchildren, Nikki Smith (Andy), Kim Smith (Sharodd Alston), Brittany Hicks (Jeremy), Tiffany Howard (Nick), Andrew Worrell (fianc, Samantha Sillaman), Caitlyn Haywood (Challen), Sarah Nollenberger (Will), Matthew Alford (fianc, McKenzie Williams), Emily Alford, Hope Alford, and Jonathan Alford; his great-grandchildren, Haley Smith, Shyanne Smith, Addee Miller, Malorie Alston, Tripp Smith, Sarah Howard, Owen Haywood, Mahaila-Jaye Haywood, Logan Hicks and was looking forward to the arrival of Olivia Howard due in August; his brothers, Harold Ray Alford (Donnie) and Kenneth Lewis Alford; his sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Blackford and Gaynelle Alford; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 12:00 PM at West Mount Baptist Church, 8487 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Rev. John Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of West Mount Baptist Church.
