Robert “Bob” VanScoik

Rocky Mount - Robert “Bob” VanScoik, age 82, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born in Fulton County, IN on January 9, 1934, he was the son of the late C. Berlin VanScoik and Laura Faye Haitt VanScoik. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Laura Ann Smith VanScoik; and brother, Paul D. VanScoik. Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Following his service, he began his career in textiles with TextiLease Corp in 1966. Throughout his career, he expanded his knowledge by enrolling in night courses, first at ECU and later went on to graduate from UNCW with a degree in accounting. After 29 dedicated years with TextiLease, he would go on to retire in 1995. Bob was a man of great faith and always placed his trust in his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church for many years and also was a devoted member of Gideons International. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Bob leaves behind to cherish his memory, his brother, Marvin G. VanScoik and his wife, Wanneta, of Three Rivers, MI; and his sisters, Frances J. Teeter of Union, MI, Delores Pekar and her husband, Ed, of Houston, TX, and Carol Blumenburg and her husband, Rick, of Bridgeman, MI. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Elbert Smith of Rocky Mount; two sister-in-laws, Catherine Arnold of Rocky Mount, and Betty Brown and her husband, Cecil, of Seagrove; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Kay Wester also of Rocky Mount. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Baptist Church, 13037 US 64 Alt. Hwy., West, Rocky Mount with Pastor Mike Dixon and Pastor Joe Price officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.
