Raymond “Cecil” Calhoun

ROCKY MOUNT - Raymond "Cecil" Calhoun, age 88, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 19, 2018. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on April 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Kelly Louis Calhoun and Effie Bulluck Calhoun. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Leon, Marvin, and Dempsey Calhoun; and sisters, Mae Stallings, Rubye Todd, Evelyn Griffin, and Ella Coats. Cecil served his country for four years through the U.S. Airforce. He retired with the U.S. Postal Service with 25 years of dedicated service. Cecil was a good Christian man and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, and also served as a Deacon. He enjoyed working in his garden. Cecil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Cecil leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 65 years, Geraldine Calhoun; sons, C. Wayne Calhoun and wife, Debra, of Rocky Mount, and Steve Calhoun and wife, Beth, of Tarboro; and daughter, Vickie Calhoun Bain and husband, Billy, of Nashville. He is also survived by grandchildren, Brian Bain and wife, Amy, Matthew Bain and wife, Kaylene, Amy Webb and husband, Chris, Daniel Calhoun and wife, Jewel, Mikayla, Noah, Isaac, Judah, Martha, and Micah Calhoun; great-grandchildren, Haley, Chandler, Rory, and Auden Bain, Logan, Callie-Ann, and Dalton Webb, and Addi Calhoun; sister, Gladys Calhoun Shelton, of Tarboro; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, 4948 Carter Road, Elm City, NC 27822.   10. Another Soldier Has Come Home! What can I say about this wonderful man of God! He has always been such an integral part of my early years at Southside. A true friend to our family for so many years! My Dad’s best friend since the early 50s!! A heart of goodness & love for Jesus, a true witness for the name of Christ.   12. To the family When I heard the news of Mr. Cecil, my first thought was! Wow what a wonderful Christan man he was. When he entered the gates this morning, I know that he Lord said Well done my faithful servant! A true man of God! He was the backbone of Southside Baptist Church, and Mrs. Jerry so are you! We love you guys and will be praying for comfort and strength.
