ROCKY MOUNT – Phillip Wayne Combs, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on October 18, 1949, he was the son of the late Fred David Combs and Naomi “Pat” Catherine Davis Combs.
Phil retired from the City of Rocky Mount and faithfully served 20 years in the National Guard. He loved the Lord, his family, and found joy in the simple things of life like reading. Known for his quick smile and kind words, Phil had a talent for making those around him feel valued and joyful. He especially treasured spending time with his family and listening to good music. Phil’s love, generosity, and warmth will be remembered by all who knew him.
Phil was married to his high school sweetheart, Peggy Gibson Combs, for 54 wonderful years. He was the proud father of Christopher P. Combs, Kimberly C. Parker (and her husband David Parker), and the late Ronald D. Combs. He cherished his grandchildren Kayla Parker, Emma Parker, and Declan Parker. He is also survived by his brother David Combs, sister-in-law Catherine Combs, nieces Maggie Reed and Mollie Barrett, and nephew Blake Tedder.
A celebration of life service to celebrate Phil’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 200 S Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service in the Narthex of First Baptist Church.
