ROCKY MOUNT - Peggy Moore Jefferson Hill, age 89, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on March 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Jessie James Moore and Ethel Lee Oakey Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Horace Jefferson and John R. Hill; brothers, Jessie Moore, Jr., J. T. Moore; sisters, Nina Gurganus, Norine Edwards, Joyce Arrington; and special love, Joy.
Peggy graduated from West Edgecombe. In her early years, she worked at Rocky Mount Evening Telegram. Peggy retired as a Personnel Manager of Belk in Rocky Mount. She was a woman of strong faith and devoted member of Edgemont Baptist Church. A devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Peggy will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten.
Peggy leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Lynne Jefferson Felton and husband, Graham, of Atlanta, GA, Pat Jefferson Bass and husband, Wes, of Nashville, Leigh Jefferson Compton and husband, Walter, of Rocky Mount, Gini Jefferson Winstead and husband, Gerald, of Beaufort, SC, Phyllis Jefferson Chafin and husband, Chris, of Winston-Salem. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special love, Zoey.
A Celebration of Peggy's Life will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Edgemont Baptist Church, 1622 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Mike Edwards and Rev. Keith Griffin officiating. A Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Church Sanctuary.
There will be a Private Family Burial at Pineview Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome or memorial may be made to Edgemont Baptist Church, 1622 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.

We haven’t known Gini and Gerald, but cherish their friendship since moving to Beaufort. They have great comforters in my mom’s death and Daddy’s illness. Prayers for all of your family in your time of grief.

I’ve known Mrs. Hill for about six years. She was my neighbor and we spent many hours sitting on her front porch, with Zoey, enjoying the fresh air and greeting all the other neighbors. We talked about God’s love, His goodness and how proud she was of her family. She was always happy to have her family near. She enjoyed going to church when she was able. Thanking God for a life well lived. We can only imagine her walking with Jesus and reunited with her loved ones. God bless the family and know she is safe in the arms of Jesus.
