Together, they had 2 daughters, Ashley and Tara. She returned to college and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from North Carolina Wesleyan College. She taught 5th grade and kindergarten in North Carolina and Virginia until her retirement in 2004. She loved being an educator and touched the lives of many students during her tenure in the classroom. Above all else, Nancy loved her family. She served as her mother’s primary care giver until her death. In 2004, she retired to Rocky Mount, NC to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. Her sister Judy was her best friend and together the two of them spent many hours together planning special things for their grandchildren. She was an avid crafter, excelling in quilting, knitting, crocheting, and smocking. She loved antiques and refinished many pieces over the years, some of which were proudly displayed in her home. She was also a master in the kitchen, and she taught both of her daughters the joy of cooking and shared many of her favorite family recipes. She was well known for her fried chicken, pork chops, collard greens, chocolate pies, pickles, home-made jams and jellies and fresh-baked sourdough bread. Nancy never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone, from any walk of life. Everyone who met her loved her spunk, her spice and her sense of humor. She could always bring a smile to your face and elicit a chuckle. The family would like to thank Dr. Martha Chesnutt, Amanda Griffin, and Teri Gibson at Boice-Willis Clinic for their many years of devoted care, along with the staff of The Landings at Rocky Mount Mills and Hospice of Wilson for their kind and compassionate aid. It never hurt that everyday at work she always told me she loved me. I hope I made her feel loved too. She was one of a kind! I won’t only miss her, but I will miss seeing her girls Ashley and Tara, and of course Miss Keshia! You’re all in my prayers and thoughts every day! ❤️
