Milton Laverne Griffin

November 16, 1923 ~ February 23, 2021

ROCKY MOUNT - Milton Laverne Griffin, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on November 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Sidney David Griffin and Eva Proctor Griffin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dorsett Griffin. Milton graduated from Red Oak High School and attended college at NC State University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 10, 1942 during World War II and was assigned to the 351st Bombardment Group in which he contributed to over 60 missions. In 2011, he was honored with being on board for the Flight of Honor. Milton retired with the US Postal Service after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a charter member of Dortches Ruritan Club and was a longtime member of Dortches Baptist Church. He was a farmer and gardener for many years. Milton enjoyed traveling all over the United States, fishing, and loved attending NC State football and basketball games. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Milton is survived by his daughters, Sheila Varnell (Boyce) and Karen Bottoms (Thomas); his son, Sid Griffin (Lisa); his grandchildren, Amy Wood and family, Bryon Varnell (Stephanie), Mandy Joyner (Will) and family, Kelly Grady (Tommy) and family, Kyle Massengale (Amy) and family, Lindsay Oliver (Jacob) and family, April Eisenman (Blair), and Heather Griffin (Hayden); his sisters, Carolyn Grigg and Edna Thompson (Joe). A Private Graveside Service will be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milton Griffin Memorial Fund at Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time.   6. Mr. Griffin was such a nice person and a faithful member of the church. He used to take my Mama, Roslyn Fisher and his sister, Edna Joyce to the basketball games in Rocky Mount. Our prayers and thoughts go to the family.

You and your family were certainly blessed to have had him all these years, leaving you with many, many wonderful memories. He certainly lived a full and productive life, serving his nation, church, and community admirably.
