Born in Durham County, NC on July 21, 1951, he was the son of the late William Wallace Holmes and Vera Florence Gibson Holmes. Michael leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother Vera F. Holmes of Rocky Mount; sister and brother in law, Jennell H. Harris and J. Frank Harris of Burlington; and his niece Dr. Hannah C. Baggett and her husband, Russ, of Opelika, AL. A Private Memorial Graveside Service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, at a later date.
