ROCKY MOUNT - Michael Dawson Champ, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Born in Cook County, IL on August 17, 1951, he was the son of the late Gene Dawson Champ and Helen Marie Holloway. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Jo Champ and sister, Patti Burns.
Michael attended Temperance Hall United Methodist Church. He was a Vietnam veteran where he served in the United States Army with the 173rd Airborne. After the war he worked for Moore's Building & Supply for 26 years. He went on to retire with 16 years of service with Henderson Lumber Co. in Tarboro. After retirement Michael enjoyed wood working and fishing and he also loved animals. Michael was a loving husband, father, brother, friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Michael leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 30 years, Robin Stein Champ; sons, Skyler Dawson Champ of Raleigh, and Cameron Bryce Champ of Ft. Campbell, KY. He is also survived by brothers, Jeff Champ and wife, Beth, of Ridgeville, IN, Rod Gant of Winchester, IN, Tony Gant and wife, Vicki, of Winchester, IN, Sam Champ of Ridgeville, IN, Jim Champ and wife, Ashleigh, of Randolph, ME, Jerry Gant and wife, Tina, of Elcajon, CA, and John Champ of Kingman, AZ; sisters, Tami Toney and husband Chris, of Red Key, IN, and Bonnie Weatherhead and husband, Bob, of Ridgeville, IN; brother-in-law, David Burns of Vass, NC; many nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Isabelle.
A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Temperance Hall United Methodist Church, 3834 Temperance Hall Road, Elm City, with the Rev. Jesse Baker officiating. A Visitation will follow the service at the Church.
