Mason Boyd “Bill” Dickens

Mason Boyd “Bill” Dickens, 85, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016. Born in Red Oak, NC to the late Mason and Martha Holland Dickens. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice Rooks Dickens and his brothers, Wayne and Bruce Dickens. Bill served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War, then retiring after 20 years of service. Bill also retired after 30 years as a General Foreman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop 41. He was a member and served as a Deacon at Indian River Baptist Church, Chesapeake, VA. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Steven B. Dickens (Joyce), Thomas R. Dickens (Diana) and Robert L. Dickens (Jennifer); nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Bert Kirk officiating. The family will also receive friends at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services, Rocky Mount, NC on Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 25, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. His final resting place will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Nashville, NC. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Indian River Baptist Church, 1600 Laurel Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23325.
