Mary Alice Dunbar Narron

August 7, 1924 ~ February 19, 2019

ROCKY MOUNT - Mary Alice Dunbar Narron, age 94, went to be with her Lord and join the love of her life on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Born in Pungo, NC on August 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Bennie Dunbar and Estelle Allen Dunbar. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Thad T. Narron, Jr.; siblings, Benjamin Dunbar, Alfred Dunbar, and Pearl Hathaway; and by her nephew, Alfred Dunbar, Jr. Mary Alice settled in Rocky Mount in the 1940's, where she became an operator with Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Company. There she advanced to Assistant Manager of Operator Services before retiring after 38 years of service. An active member of Southside Baptist Church for many years, Mary Alice loved and appreciated her church family. Although she did not have children of her own, "Aunt Alice" was blessed to be "another mother" to many, especially to her nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Her lively sense of humor, and compassionate, caring heart will truly be missed. Mary Alice leaves behind to cherish her memory, nephew, James Alfred Hathaway and wife, Deborah; nieces, Judy Mendiola and husband, Frank, Sandy Clark and husband, David, Joann Strickland, Norma Dunbar, Carissa Benfield and husband, Bill, Jill Pike and husband, Ken; and her sister-in-law, Joyce Gay. She was loved, and will be dearly missed by a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews who brought much joy to her life. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor C.J. Cauble officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome to gather at her niece, Carissa & Bill Benfield's home on Thursday, February 21st, 6:30 to 8:00 PM, 1700 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC. The family would like to express appreciation to her wonderful Southside Baptist Church family and to Community Home and Hospice Care. They would like to share their love and gratitude to her "Alice's angels" home caregivers, Phoebe Boule' and Wilhemenia Artis, and to Dr. David Browder, her health care provider whom she loved.   6. I’m saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs Narron. She was a wonderful friend and mentor. I always enjoyed working with her. She had such a great sense of humor, always making me smile. I really loved this lady.

Revelation 213,4 promises that God will wipe away all tears from their eyes and death will be no more . I truly hope that these words will bring comfort to your family as it did ours.
