Mary Alice Dickerson Hodges

ATLANTIC BEACH - Mary Alice Dickerson Hodges, age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 6, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Wilson County on September 25 1927, she was the daughter of the late Moses Taylor and Lena Jackson Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel E. Dickerson and Roland E. Hodges; five sisters, Nellie Colbert, Dolly Bottoms, Pattie New, Sylvia Lamb, and Dorothy Stallings; and two brothers, Jimmy Taylor and Elbert Taylor, all of Rocky Mount. Mary Alice was a faithful member of Oak View Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She enjoyed afternoon car rides with family, shopping with her nieces, attending country music concerts and dining out with her friends and family. Mary Alice loved her family and was always there to lend a helping hand. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary Alice leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Becky Dickerson Gaskins and husband, Allen; her one granddaughter, Emily Williams of Beaufort, and her two great-granddaughters, Samantha Canissario and Maria Williams; her two devoted brothers, Ray Taylor and wife, Jean, and Billy Taylor and wife, Jessie Dean, her sister-in-law, Faye Taylor; and her brother-in-law, Jim Stallings, all of Rocky Mount. In addition, she is also survived by her devoted special niece, Candy Taylor Cashwell and husband, Donald, and their sons, DeWyatt and Nathan Cashwell; special nephew, Ronald Taylor and several other nieces and nephews; and a very special friend Alice Hollifield. A Funeral Service to celebrate Mary Alice's life will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. A Private Family Burial will take place at Pineview Cemetery. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Michelle Preast, Rosa Headington, Christina White, and her hospice nurse, Chrissie Fitzula for the special care that was given during her sickness. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting the need for social distancing and wearing of masks due to health concerns faced around our nation at this time.   1. Sweet Mary Alice such wonderful lady that lived the Lord, her family and friends… she was a shining light. I know God held out HIS arms for her coming… her and I talked about seeing Aunt Lina, Uncle Moses, Uncle Sam and late husband and all family and friends to include my mom and dad!!! She never judged just loved… she was a very special lady and there will be another hole in my heart till I see her again and we will rejoice in Heaven and our Lord!!! To Becky.. your mom was so proud and you were everything to her… you made her life easier and happy … you were a great daughter and I’m proud of you. She felt and knew all the love you gave and showed her. Blessings on you sweetie!! I love you!
