Lawrence Leroy Gibbs, age 71, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013. A native of Rocky Mount born on December 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Davis Leroy Gibbs and Linda Lawrence Gibbs.
After retiring from 30 years of teaching, Lawrence was actively involved in Englewood United Methodist Church, especially in its Mens Peanut Project.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Jeannie Hooks Gibbs; sons, Christopher Lawrence Gibbs and wife Linda of Concord and Clayton Scott Gibbs and wife Camille of Raleigh; grandchildren, Rachel and Brady; and sister, Susie Anderson and husband T.J. of Clinton, MO.
The family will receive friends and relatives 7:00pm to 8:30pm Monday, September 16, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Lawrence will be held at 11:00am Tuesday morning at Englewood United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Englewood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7128, Rocky Mount NC 27804 or a charity of your choice.

I have known Lawrence for more than 20 years…. Lawrence always talked about his church and and his family. He was a good and kind person and always had nice things to say about everyone. Jeanie, I was so shocked and sorry to hear of Lawrences death. He was so good to visit Jerry when he was sick and has always been so nice to me and my family. Jeannie, I am so very sorry for your loss. Lawrence was such a nice person and loved life as anyone could tell.
