Rocky Mount - Laddie Moore Crisp, Sr., age 84, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015. Born in Edgecombe County on May 10, 1931, he was the youngest son of the late James Ashley Crisp and Lucy Forbes Crisp of Old Sparta. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Charlie Crisp.
Laddie worked for Jefferson Plot Insurance Company for over 38 years as an insurance producer. His inviting personality helped forge many lasting relationships with those around him. He enjoyed the company of others and welcomed new friendships. A man of strong faith, Laddie was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where he devoted much of his talent as a people person. Over the years, he served in various roles within the church as a Lay Reader, a member of the Vestry, a Sunday-School teacher and for 24 years he was the adult advisor to the EYC of Christ Episcopal Church. His involvement with children stretched beyond the walls of the church as he volunteered with Cub Scout Pack 57 for many years and also serving as a Senior Warden. Laddie was also a Mason and was very proud to be a member of the Corinthian Lodge 320 for 47 years. A loving husband, caring and enduring father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a dear friend, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Laddie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Elsie Elizabeth Crisp, his son Dr. Laddie M. Crisp, Jr. and his wife, Jamie, of Kinston and his daughter Teresa Crisp Parker and her husband, Tommy, of Rocky Mount. He also survived by his four grandchildren, Elizabeth Heely, Thomas Parker, Laddie M. Crisp, III and Allison Parker; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Crisp Dennie of Conetoe and Sue Crisp Hush of Sykesville, MD.

Elsie, So sorry to hear of Laddie’s deathWe were talking about him the other day. We always enjoyed the emails and your visits to PAT’s when we were there. Laddie was always there to comfort others. We will always remember his visit to hospital when our son was dying and the comforting words he spoke to us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
Dear Elsie and family we are so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Laddie when he would have to have papers served on some of his clients over the years when I was with the sheriff’s department. It was a privilege to have known him. May God hold you in His Hand at this time. Love and prayers Tom and Sandy Moore
Aunt Elsie- You are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Uncle Laddie was a very warm and wonderful man, I wish I could have shared more time with him. All the best. McKenzie (Blaauw) Trotter

Rest in Peace, Leaky Laddie. We gave him that nickname in EYC because he was often prone to tears – out of both worry and joy I am sure – expressing his emotions while guiding and helping us. I am also fortunate to have him and Elsie as my Godparents. He and his soft and kind heart will be forever missed and never forgotten.
Laddie was faithful both in his love of God and his love of his neighbor. Have prayed, will pray for the family. H. Boyd Overman Jr. Frenchie
Such a kind man. I can hear him now call my name and talk to me with gentleness that was rare. Prayers of Comfort and peace from God that only He cn give.
There are people who pass through one’s life that cannot be erased no matter the years. Laddie was one of those people for me. I met him when I served a year at Christ Church. I do not believe I have ever met anyone who lived his faith more. He lived that faith in word and deed. He didn’t preach sermons. Laddie lived them. My thoughts will continue with you, Elsie, and your family. I shall keep you in my prayers. Sandra Pittman Biggs
Laddie Crisp Sr. was a good Christian, one who lived his faith daily. Always having an ear to listen and a heart to care, Laddie spread comfort and joy everywhere. As a child growing up in the EYC at Christ Church, I experienced first-hand his generosity, leadership and willingness to serve. One of my favorite memories of Laddie was when the EYC would go to the beach. The boys would sleep downstairs, the girls upstairs and Laddie slept at the bottom of the steps. I smile every time I think of that man. There were at least 5 of us EYC kids who didnt have a father in the home for one reason or another. Laddie was the best example of a great dad we ever could have asked for. Thank you Laddie Jr. and Theresa for sharing your dad with us. Thank you Elsie for helping him with the EYC. You guys shaped many young lives in a wonderful way. Laddie, we will miss you and love you forever. Terry Cueto Hopkins

I would never be able to fill this space with what this man meant to me, my brother and sisters, and my parents. The day we met him he let us know we were now his family, and always treated us with that type of unconditional love. Sometimes in life you meet people who will have a place in your heart forever, Mr. C is one of those people. I love this man, and my heart and prayers go out to his lovely wife Elsie, and his children and grandchildren, who I know will miss him very much.
Never had the privilege of knowing Mr. Crisp, but his legacy through Dr. Crisp has impacted the community in which we live and me personally in a powerful way. Thank you Mr. Crisp for having invested your life in Dr. Crisp. We are forever grateful. Jimbo Perry Kinston
I have such wonderful memories of Christ Church, many of them due to Mr. Crisp and his loving leadership of EYC. He was like a second father to many of us through our teenage years and he is remembered fondly. God’s blessing on Mrs. Crisp and the whole family as you mourn his loss. He will be missed! Love, Hope Kelly Galunas
