Kenneth Ray Whitley, age 71, of Rocky Mount, NC, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015. Born November 20, 1943 in Nash County, NC, he was the son of the late Eddie Thomas Whitley and Bessie Griffin Whitley. In addition to his parents, Kenneth is predeceased by his daughter, Michelle Whitley; five sisters, Esther W. Wiggins, Virginia W. Balkcum, Frances W. Edwards, Ethel W. McSwan, and Margaret W. Martin; and four brothers, Clyde Whitley, David Whitley, Harvey Whitley and Norman Whitley.
The youngest of thirteen children, Kenneth was without a doubt dedicated to family. His four girls, grandchildren and great grand-babies (pappa-daddy as he was known) was the light of his life and all revolved around them. Kenneth ensured they had everything of which he could provide and devoted himself entirely to their upbringing. He had an overwhelming amount of wisdom, of which he gained from his joy of reading. It can be said that Kenneth knew a little bit of any subject and would astonish those around him with his knowledge. His dedication to family was also found in his dedication to the U.S. Postal Service as a Postman. Rain, shine, sleet, or snow Kenneth took his career seriously, retiring after 34 years of service. Following his retirement, he could easily be found working in his garden or throwing a line in the water in hopes of catching the one that got away.
Left to cherish his memories are his four daughters, Renae Nowell and her husband, Scott, of Rocky Mount, Sheryle Rackley and her husband, Tim, of Rocky Mount, Tanya Whitley of Rocky Mount, and Charlene Whitley of Kinston, his six grandchildren, Kimberly Adcox, Hunter Rackley, Jeremiah Gonyea, and Christina, Kenneth, and Brian Nowell; as well as his two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Addisyn Adcox. Kenneth is also survived by two sisters, Helen W. Swindle and Mavis W. Lanier and one brother, Eddie Whitley all of Rocky Mount.

I worked with Kenneth at the US Postal Service for over 23 years. He was a nice, quiet person who was always respectful of others and very friendly to all. Hopefully he is in a happy, beautiful place now with our Lord and will always be smiling. I will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.
You will always be remembered and never forgotten. I love you Uncle Kenneth and until we see each other again.

Earle and Jewel Balkcum…. To the immediate family of Kenneth Ray Whitley; Jewel and I wish to express our deepest sympathy in your time of need. May God bless you all and may he walk with you through the coming days. To the rest of the family our hearts and prayers are being said. As Kenneth was my uncle (three years older than me) he took me under his wings at an early age. So much so that I considered him my brother. We did everything alike clothes, hair do, things to say, guitars, Karate, Yoga, to the beach every time we could go, old cars we had to push to get started and I could go on and on as there where many stories to tell. As we grew up our lives took a change, Vietnam for me Kids and children for him. we still got along very well but we both had family matters to take care of as I had kids too. Kenneth was a family man and true to them all. We use to call each other late at night and talk for hours. Kenneth my Uncle, My Brother I will never ever forget the things in life you taught me along this path. The love you gave to me is the love I have always had for you with respect. May God protect and keep you until we meet again.
Tanya and Family… We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May you feel God wrap His Loving arms around you and give you peace and comfort.
May. God be with each of you and give you the grace you need. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.love Aunt Joyce
