BEAUFORT (formerly of WHITAKERS)Joseph Hyman Stallings, Jr., 89, died Monday, July 14, 2014. He was born November 10, 1924 in Pitt County to Lillian and Joseph Stallings, Sr.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Lynda and Dan Shepherd of Rocky Mount, NC; Mary Jo and Mickey Edwards of Beaufort, NC; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Danny and Susan Everett of Elm City, NC; Hyman and Cathy Stallings of St. Peters, MO; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother Felix “Pete” Stallings of Eastover, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Mary; two brothers, William Stallings and Clyde Stallings; and granddaughter Jordan Stallings.
Visitation with the family will be held 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 18, 2014 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Whitakers Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gethsemane Baptist Church, Whitakers, NC.

Hyman, I just found out about the passing of your father and your daughter when I went by your office and inquired about you. My condolences to you and the family. I am sorry to hear that. I am praying for you all and hope God give you the comfort to accept this loss. Is very hard but He has a plan and all we can do is pray for him to give us the resignation.
