BATTLEBORO – John White Fisher, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Born on December 11, 1938, he was the beloved son of the late Wiley Vick Fisher and Elizabeth White Fisher, and the grandson of the late John Thomas Fisher and Minnie Vick Fisher.  He grew up alongside his brother, Wiley Vick Fisher, Jr., and cherished his extended family throughout his life.

John attended Fork Union Military Academy, Rocky Mount Senior High School and continued his education at Campbell University for two years.  He proudly served in the National Guard and devoted 20 years of service to his community as a member of the Volunteer Battleboro Fire Department.  He was also an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Battleboro.

John was a professional farmer for his entire life.  He cultivated tobacco, cotton, soybeans, corn, and peanuts, and also grew fresh produce including strawberries, which he sold at his produce stand in Battleboro, serving his community with dedication and pride.  In later years, he especially enjoyed growing tomatoes, often delighting friends and family by sharing his homegrown harvest.

In his early life, John loved his favorite sport bird hunting, and he loved to train and work with his bird dogs.  Later, he was a dedicated member of the Roanoke and Tar River Gun Club, where he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting.  He also loved fishing at the local pond, particularly catching catfish from his pontoon boat, enjoying peaceful days outdoors and teaching his grandkids how to fish.

On September 1, 1963, John married Harriett Brown Fisher, with whom he shared more than six decades of love, laughter, and partnership.  Together they raised three children: Harriett Paige Fisher, John Craig Fisher, and Mark White Fisher, who were the pride and joy of John’s life.  John’s legacy extends to his grandchildren, including:  Lillian Elizabeth Fisher and Sanders Holderness Fisher, children of John Craig Fisher and Duval Reams Fisher; Isabelle Mae Fisher and Bennett White Fisher, children of Mark White Fisher and Lori Joyner Fisher.  He was also an uncle to his niece, Jennifer Fisher Albano, and his nephew, Wiley Vick Fisher, III.

He is survived by his loving wife Harriett, his three children, his grandchildren, and his extended family.
