James Vernon Moody

ROCKY MOUNT - James Vernon Moody, age 83, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016. Born in Wake County, NC on November 13, 1932 he was the son of the late William Loney Moody and Dora Moody Floyd. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward M. Floyd. Vernon was known for being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a long time member of the Lions Club. He was a devoted member for over 50 years to St. Paul United Methodist Church where he held many titles. He was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, also a devoted choir member. Vernon was a contributing member to the Methodist Mens Group. Vernon held a leadership role in the relocation and construction of the new church facility. He also chaired and participated in numerous church committees throughout his life. Vernon was very passionate about golf, his friends and the community. He was a member of Birchwood Country Club for over 50 years. Vernon leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Irene Mitchell Moody of 64 Years; his daughter, Vicki M. Hicks and a beautiful granddaughter, Jamie L. Hicks of Raleigh, NC; a sister-in-law, Linda Floyd of Rocky Mount, NC; Vernon also leaves behind to cherish his memory, several nieces and nephews. Vernon had a very special relationship with his lifelong friends, Charles “Charlie” Ward and his late wife Nell. A Committal Service will be held at 1:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of Vernons life on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1217 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Jerry Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vernons name to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1217 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 or the American Cancer Society, 930 B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
