  1. My brother Allen and I grew up with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis and Mike and JImmy back on Cokey Road. Those were the good old days. Learn a lot in Sunday School and fun times at Vacation Bible School. Wonderful loving family. He will be missed. Mr. Lewis always remember to send a card on our birthdays and anniversaries, I will miss that but I kept my cards from him so I can always look back and have those memories. My husband Gene was always fond of Mr. Lewis also, he enjoyed their little talks from time to time. We will keep the family in our prayers and thoughts. Love, Ellen Wooten Langley

  2. This was a very sweet and kind man. the hardest thing is not being able to see him or speak with him at church. You will never know the impact you had on me and my children. My daughter loves you like you were her other grandpa I just pray that you will watch over her. I will forever miss you but I know you are right where you need to be. Even though my heart breaks I can’t help but smile because you are now with our Lord! I enjoyed our talks in sunday school class and you helped me see things in a different point of view. you will always be in our hearts and until we meet again! to his family my thoughts, prayers are with yall during this time! Love you lots Jerry, Ashley, Braxton & Brittany Cox

  3. Uncle James was a kind & faith- filled man. He put others before himself,I never recall him talking negatively about anyone. He would send birthday & holiday greetings to my family, with a thoughtful, handwritten note sending his love. He could never have received as much as he gave. I am thankful to have been even a small part of his life. My thoughts & prayers are sent to the family. He will be missed. Sharan & Keith Haner

  4. Wow,where to begin. Your Dad has been an influence throughout my whole life. I wish my Mom or grandma could tell you some stories right now.. The most important one comes to mind when my stepfather passed at Duke and the Dad and Clarence went to Durham to bring Mom home. I thank them so much for that. James was a good Christian gentleman. May God bless you and your family! Steve Bulluck

  6. Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 258. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.

  7. I was so very sorry to hear of Mr. Lewis’ passing. He was definitely a fine Christian gentleman. My sisters, brother, and I all attended the First Free Will Baptist Church on Cokey Road from the time we were born so we have known James, Louise, Jimmy, and Mike since we were kids. We all grew up together going to Sunday School, church, AFC’s, and Vacation Bible School. James and Louise were always there to support the church family at all times. They were both fine Christians whose lives exemplified their faith in so many ways. If there was ever a match made in heaven, it was James and Louise. I am sure he has missed Louise so much since she passed away, but today they are together again rejoicing in heaven. What a reunion! My deepest sympathy goes out to Jimmy and Mike and your families. With Love & Prayers, Sue Rivenbark Carpenter

  8. What a difference one life makes in the world. I have known James since 1970. Through sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and wit James had a great impact on the lives of many trade helpers and mechanics over the decades. He was a gentleman, man of his word, and friend.

  9. Grandpa was such a loving and kind man. He always knew what to say when things were hard. I am only sorry that I didn’t get to see him again. He knew that he was wonderful to my kids(10 in all). We will love and miss you. Thank you for always being in my corner when I needed you. Thank you for always sending cards on birthdays and holidays. We love you. See you in heaven.
