James "Jim" Albert Ezzell

ROCKY MOUNT – James “Jim” Albert Ezzell, age 93, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on August 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Willie E. Ezzell and Ethel Estelle Ezzell. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Newsome Ezzell; his son, Timothy Gregory Ezzell; his brothers, Johnny Earl Ezzell, William “Bill” Elwood Ezzell, and Herman Hill; and his sister, Opal “Snooks” Elizabeth Narron. Jim served his country in the United States Army. A man of great faith, he was a long-time member of North Rocky Mount Church of God. Jim enjoyed going to Bojangles every morning for breakfast. He had many hobbies which included working in his yard keeping it pristine all the way until last August. Jim enjoyed playing golf and in his younger days, the Ezzell family tradition, roller skating. If you asked him what his greatest accomplishment in life was, he would always say raising his family, whom he was so proud of. He was a friend to all those that was blessed to know him. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family. Jim is survived by his daughter, Gail Ezzell Ford of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Landon Ford, Codi Ford, Hannah Ezzell Tanner and husband, Matt, Thomas Ezzell, and Christian “Tyler” Ezzell and fiancée, Stephanie Brooke Bissett; great-grandchildren, Leighton Grace Tanner and Isabella Grace Ezzell; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Jerome Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Jim’s memory to North Rocky Mount Church of God, 2413 Goldrock Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   1. What a remarkable man- James Albert Ezzell! He was kind and loved his family!
    I affectionately referred to him as,”G-daddy” because when I wanted to take Thomas somewhere and we had to get permission- it was always easier to put G-daddy!
    Two things I will always remember about him- he kept an immaculate yard and could hang out the prettiest line of clothes you ever did see.
