Horace Lee Joyner

December 28, 1958 ~ July 2, 2018

ROCKY MOUNT - Horace Lee Joyner, age 59, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on December 28, 1958, he was the son of Wiley Burrell Joyner, Jr. and Marie Smith Joyner. He also was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Kenny Rogers. Horace was a member of Englewood Baptist Church where he celebrated being saved by his Lord and Savior in 2017. A man larger than life and always filled with laughter and excitement, Horace possessed a personality in which those around him would automatically gravitate to. A mainstay at the Good Tymes Club of Rocky Mount, a club for which he owned and operated for 35 years, it can be said that Horace was always there with open doors, open arms, tasty food, and laughter which would last throughout the night. Many wonderful memories were made with his patrons, or better his extended family, especially on Thursdays and Sundays when Horace would spend the day cooking for all those who would come out to attend the many bike events at the club. A life-long motorcycle lover, Horace had a passion for building and working on various bikes, especially his "baby" Old Glory. There wasn't a motorcycle, chopper, or any other wheeled vehicle Horace couldn't fix, make better or faster as long as he had a socket wrench in hand. Over the many years, he traveled across the country with his son and friends to various bike events and runs, making new friends along the way. Many things can be said and will be remembered about Horace, but the one that will most be cherished was Horace's belief in giving onto others. He was a humble man of many charitable deeds. He would gladly give the shirt off his back to help another in need and where ever there was a cause or plea for help, Horace was there to give more than his share, never asking for anything in return. His commitment to his family as a loyal husband, a loving father, and a dedicated friend. Not a special date would go by in which Horace would not make sure you were remembered. From birth dates of those he loved, ensuring they enjoyed a cake or a card on their special day, to making sure those around him were fed, as he was an excellent cook, Horace will be dearly missed, but his uplifting quote, "Everybody have a blessed day" will never be forgotten. Horace leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 33 years, Barbara Marlowe Joyner of Rocky Mount; his son Jeremy Joyner and his wife, Samantha, of Whitakers; and his sister Cindy Joyner Rogers of Rocky Mount. He will also be remembered by his mother-in-law, Jeanette Marlowe of Rocky Mount; his brother-in-law Randy Marlowe and his wife, Carol, of Winder, GA; several nieces and nephews; and his two four-leg fur babies, Dixie and Bandit. A Celebration of Horaces Life will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S Winstead Ave, Rocky Mount, NC 27803, with Mr. Kenny Dickerson officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Following the Celebration of Horaces Life, friends are welcome to accompany the family on a Memorial Motorcycle Ride from the church to the Good Tymes Club of Rocky Mount in memory of Horace.
