Horace Lee Batchelor

ROCKY MOUNT - Horace Lee Batchelor, age 82, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018. Born in Nash County, NC on April 3, 1935, he was the son of the late Willie C. Batchelor and Eta Polland Batchelor. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Angela Vicar Batchelor; brothers, Randolph Batchelor and Clarence Batchelor, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Pete Skinner. Horace retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force with 21 years. Along with serving in Vietnam where he received a purple heart, he was also stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California and at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. During his time in service, Horace was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Following his service, Horace went to work for Velocity Transport. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. Horace was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Horace leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Danny Lee Batchelor and Alan Dale Batchelor. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Skinner of Stantonsburg, Undine Lamm and husband, Willie Gray, of Elm City, Barbara Vick and husband, Herbert, of Nashville, and Peggy Jackson and husband, Donnie, of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Floyd Holmes officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service. The family would like to thank Horace's caregivers, Chris, Nellie, Shirley, Judy, Nell, and Brenda for their love and dedicated care.
