BRACEY, VA – Helen Cathryn Minges Marks, age 75, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. Born in Jefferson County, AL on November 29, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Harold Dixon Minges and Miriam Knowles Minges. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wayne Marks, Sr.

Helen was a woman of boundless love, unwavering strength, and remarkable grace. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and spent much of her life in the Carolinas, where her family made their home when her father joined Pepsi Bottling Company. Her journey was marked by a passion for family. Helen spent her early years in Rocky Mount, first in the bustling heart of downtown and later at Harmingdale. Harmingdale was the backdrop to so many cherished memories. It was here Helen, alongside her sisters, were taught the values of kindness, resilience, and lessons of faith. Helen embraced her dreams of motherhood with open arms. Despite a full-time career, Helen never wavered in her commitment to providing her children with the tools to succeed. She approached life with curiosity and creativity, finding beauty in the simple moments and joy in the love of her family. Her legacy of love and resilience lives on in the lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
Helen is survived by her sons, Richard Wayne Marks, Jr. and wife, Shanda, and Russell Scott Boseman and wife, Jessica; her daughters, Tina Marks Parker and husband, Larry, and Miriam Elizabeth Boseman and significant other, Bobby Bottoms; her grandchildren, Kaylan Hannah Marks, Logan Alexander Marks, Nathan Scott Boseman and wife, Kayla, Chason Lee Boseman, Dillon Lee Parker and wife, Courtney, Garrett Lee Parker and wife, Emily, Bryson Lee Parker, Grayson Elizabeth Lee Parker, Carson Lee Parker, Bobby Allen Bottoms, Jr., Lynn-Marie Cathyrn Bottoms, Glenn Austin Bottoms, and Addison Elizabeth Bottoms; her great-grandchildren, Charleston Parker and Colton Parker; and her sisters, Leigh Minges Price and husband, Allen, and Dail Minges Norfolk and husband, Allen; her furry child, Pepsi; and her furry grandchildren, Lady Clyde Dora Boseman and Koda.

A Special Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Kingswood Methodist Church, 4234 State Rte. 903, Bracey VA, 23919.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen’s memory to Kingswood Methodist Church, 4234 State Rte. 903, Bracey VA, 23919.

    • She was always the first to volunteer in our community. A fundraiser, memorial or any event benefiting our River Ridge family, she was there. A true southern lady and beautiful soul❤️ she will be missed by many! Hope you and Harry are up their introducing eachother to loved ones and sharing a good ole fashion Creamsicle

My mom loved Helen so much and always enjoyed her coming by to visit. I have numerous fun memories of time spent at Harmingdale and at the Minges home…..treasured memories of those childhood days!!!!! Sending hugs and love to you all!

  7. One of God’s greatest gifts has been returned to God. A beautiful lady is now in the loving arms of Jesus. She is a wonderful and kind hearted person. The kind the world needs more of. Having grown up in Lumberton with the Minges family there, we certainly had great conversations.   9. Helen was the most gracious and sophisticated woman we’ve ever met. From day one she always had a smile on her face and an infectious voice. At any gathering we attended we would gravitate to her, and she always made us feel special with her uplifting conversation. We admired Helen’s independence and zeal for life. She was always out and about with Pepsi and they we’re a TEAM. She will be missed by so many and was LOVED by even more. She is now with GOD and there is no more pain. Our prayers to the entire family.
