Harvey Edward Hardy, Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT - Harvey Edward Hardy, Jr., age 88, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Born in Carteret County, NC December 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Harvey Edward Hardy, Sr. and Mamie Mason Hardy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, of 61 years, Sandra Shearon Hardy; and his sister, Ann Joines. Harvey grew up in La Grange, NC. He attended North Carolina State University and received a degree in Civil Engineering. He moved his family to the reservoir in Rocky Mount, NC when he worked for the NC Department of Transportation where they enjoyed fishing, swimming and water skiing. Harvey was often found hunting and fishing with his boys Ed and Allen and he loved to spoil his daughter, Shearon. He spent time babysitting his granddaughter, Shannon and watching his grandson, Cody and granddaughter Rachel play ball. He also helped his granddaughter, Victoria with her math and fondly called her by her nickname "squirrel girl." He was a member at Englewood Presbyterian Church and gave to a children's charity every year at Christmas time because he said they had no one else to help them if he didn't. He will be missed by his family and friends. Harvey is survived by his children, Ed Hardy and wife, Barbara, of Rocky Mount, Shearon Hardy of Youngsville, Allen Hardy and wife, Jane, of Zebulon; his grandchildren, Victoria Hardy, Shannon Hardy, Cody Hardy, Rachel Hardy; and his nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Harvey's life will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Rob Westland officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. The Committal Service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange.
