Guestbook

  1. I knew Mr.Colston from working with him at the Nash Co Tax Office over 15 years. He was always such a pleasure to work with. I am very sorry to hear of your loss.

  2. Harold was my customer for more than twenty years but I also considered him a friend. My sincerest condolences to his entire family. He will no doubt be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. RIP my friend….

  3. Dear John and Colston family, Your are in our prayers. We have been hurting and thinking of you. I’d like to share a wonderful memory I have of Harold. What a caring man during a very tough time for both of us. We were both tenants in the POWER Plant on the first floor prior to Hurricane Floyd. We had naturally become friends passing each other often at nearby offices. His gentle and thoughtful demeanor was always magnetic. On September 17, 1999 We both lost our offices to flood waters. I also lost my home two blocks away on N. Taylor street. I was a young dad, self employed, with a stay at home wife, and 4 kids, ages 13 years to 10 months old. Now – No office, no home. No prospect of immediate business in a flood impacted Rocky Mount. What do we do We cried out LORD help us! I trust God tapped Harold on the shoulder. With all Harold personally had going on already from the flood, and all the other friends also needing help at that time, he did not overlook my helpless situation. After learning of my situation, Harold reached out to his civic club friends and passed the financial hat. He lead the charge with his own money. He verbally encouraged me that I could make it! He gave us a much needed financial check, with the help of his friends contributions. It was hundreds of dollars! What an unselfish and caring man!!! I want to be like that! That God could tap me on the shoulder and I would listen and obey, in caring response. Harold was a God send to our family. I got the feeling he regularly and humbly lived a life of such good deeds. What a man!!!

  4. Mr. Colston (the entire Colston family, actually) was a very generous and humorous soul. During my time as a student at UNCG, he and his family welcomed me and my husband to amazing and warm Thanksgiving gatherings. Our times together will always be special and remembered for great food, talk, and friendship. Our hearts are with his family during this time.

  5. Marshall and I send our deepest condolences to Nancy, Jon, Dan and family. May God bless you with comfort and peace.

  6. Nancy, John & Ben Please accept my heartfelt condolences.. I am still in shock and was looking forward so much to visiting with Harold at our Lambda Chi reunion in Maggie Valley this fall due to our postponing this outing in May as a result of the covid 19 situation…Also know that Carol and I will have you all in our thoughts for a very long time.. Carol and Cal Lassiter

  7. To Nancy — Shirley & I were shocked and saddened today to learn of Harold’s passing last week. (It feels awkward to call him Harold; he’ll always be Clem to me). You have to know that Clem was such a respected, admired and loved friend among his brothers at Gamma Upsilon of Lambda Chi Alpha at NC State. And it’s been especially nice that you have seen to it that Clem has attended most of our AHS Class of 1958 reunions so that we could stay in touch. We’d love to attend the Celebration of Harold’s Life when that happens. Meanwhile, we are mourning with you and your family and praying that you’ll find peace in God’s love. Love, Harold & Shirley Stroupe

  8. Nancy, you and your family are in our prayers at this difficult time that you may feel God’s overwhelming love as you receive messages of love and concern. The legal profession was blessed to have such a fine man and attorney as Harold. He will be missed. Sarah and Lloyd Bailey

  9. Nancy & the Colston Family, Just found out that our remarkable Lambda Chi fraternity brother had passed away, thanks to Harold Stroupe. I first met you & Harold in 1961 at the 222 Hillcrest Ave Fraternity House as an NC State freshman. Clem Colston had already a legendary college reputation as past president, High Alpha, of our GUZ chapter. With your outstanding support along his life journey, Clem’s many successful career achievements are truly remarkable. What a wonderful life. Please know how sad I am to know that our outstanding fraternity Brother has passed away. For many men like me, we were all very fortunate to call him Brother. My sincere sympathies to all of you for his loss. May God Bless all of you, Bob Brantley – GUZ#460

  10. Nancy, we are so sadden to hear of your loss and the loss of Clem to his many friends. It was such a pleasure for me to get reacquainted with you and Clem last year at your beautiful home. He was always one of my favorite friends from our college days and will be greatly missed. All our love, Larry and Joan.
