VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Glenn Thompson, age 78, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. He was the son of the late Ira Thompson & Isabelle Watkins-Thompson. Glenn was born on November 29, 1945, welcomed by a family of siblings, Mary Louis Moss, Bernice Colbert, Daniel Ray, Emitt, Billy Talmadge, Jerry Jackson, and then came Alvin. Now they are all together again in paradise.
Glenn was raised in the Swelton Heights section of Rocky Mount. After moving to Virginia Beach, VA in 1988, he raised his family and made this his home for the rest of his life. Glenn served honorably in the United States Navy and was called to serve in the Vietnam War. While serving on the USS Sacramento & USS Camden, he traveled to the Philippines, Hawaii, Guam, Seattle, Australia, China, and Japan. He met his shipmates and life-long friends, John Rouse and Ronnie Wright, and remained close friends through the years.
Glenn retired from a rewarding career as an Operations Manager with Southern Pest Control. His dedication and loyalty of 33 years helped build the company into a nationwide success. Glenn was the funniest person on the face of the planet. He was kind, generous and selfless. Glenn would only buy the newspaper for the word puzzles, and he was an excellent speller. He loved deep sea fishing with his brothers, raw oysters, and fried fish. Glenn loved everyone and was loved by all that knew him. He was a great man, a loving husband, a good friend, and the greatest father ever known.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nora M. Thompson; his two sons, Christopher G. Thompson and husband, Jose, and Kevin Thompson; his four grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Sapphire, and Bradford; his two great-grandchildren, Thailar and Jasper; and his special brother-in-law, Grover “Groovy” Smith.
A Graveside Service to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
Our family appreciates the offers of flowers, however, Shriner’s Hospital for Children was Glenn’s favorite charity, so please consider giving to this worthwhile charity in Glenn’s memory. Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Glenn. I grew up living on the same street as him. He was always so nice and happy to see all of us kids even when we were cutting up or playing in his sand pile making a mess! It was evident that he and Nora shared a great love for one another. Their relationship was one for the books with a flame that never burned out. His children are the testament to what a great father and grandfather he was. He will be greatly missed by all. I am happy to have known you Glenn! Nora, Kevin, Chris and the rest of his loved ones are in my prayers.
Very nice Jenn!

It does make me sad to know I have to move forward without your guidance. You are a wise man. I appreciate your calmness when I was as mad as a wet sitting hen you always had a way of assuring me it will be alright. And it was.
As you and I said our prayers each night and you held my hand, I still feel your warmth and that gentle squeeze as you whispered to me “I love you more and above.”
Glenn thank you for a remarkable 55 year journey. Rest gently my Darling, you earned it.
Forever and Always
Nora (aka) Smitty ♥️
You so sweet mamma.

Sappy, you being our first Grandchild sure gave us a lot of joy over the years. You were pretty special to Grandpa and of course me too. Thank you for bringing Jasper as often as you could to visit with Grandpa he sure loved Jasper. ♥️
The last time I saw Glen was a few months ago. Nora, Glenn, Kevin, Garland, Louise and I met at the Longhorn Restaurant in Hampton. When I sat down next to Glenn and said “I’m sitting next to you handsome” a big smile came on his face. We had such a great visit and even though I knew he was getting tired, it was as if he didn’t want to leave. The last memory of Glenn is that big smile when I hugged him goodbye. Somehow I think he knew we would never see each other again on this earth. That smile is much bigger today because he is in the presence of Jesus waiting for us to join him. Love you, Glenn.
Our very dear cousin Annette, you and Garland were such a blessing to Glenn and myself. We love you both dearly. You are right that smiles had to have widened when Glenn saw our Savior. Thank you so much for your love and support throughout our saddest days and sleepless nights. You are a blessing to me. ♥️
Prayers for all of you! I know how hard it is to lose someone you’ve spent your whole life with. I love you Nora, Chris and Kevin!! ❤️🙏🏻
Louise, our sweet cousin. Thank you, as your prayers for us have helped carry the weight of loss. Our prayers continue for you for your tremendous loss of Billy too. We love you ♥️

Emily, thank you and Ron for your visits you made to see your Uncle Glenn. It meant a lot to Uncle Glenn to have y’all. Your love and support will always be cherished. Those little Angels hung on his bedside and then on the Christmas Tree in his loving memory. He loved you dearly. Much love to you! Aunt Nora, Kev, Chris and Jose ♥️
