George Lee Southerland, Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT - George Lee Southerland, Jr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018 in the presence of his loving family. Born in Wayne County, NC on June 8, 1931, he was the son of the late George and Dora Southerland. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Southerland. George married the love of his life, Ettrice Collier Southerland, on December 23, 1951. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and assisted the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He had a love for collecting and refurbishing antique cars and was a member of multiple car clubs. George leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife, Ettrice; sisters, Fonnie Skillman, Sue Kleim and husband, Ron, Annie Virginia Graham and husband, Cliff; children, Georgia Stickney and husband, David, Pam Barber and husband, Terry, Vickie Oakley and husband, Robert, George Lee Southerland III and wife, Lindsey; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Brandon Dees officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
