ROCKY MOUNT – Genevieve Privette Batchelor, age 94, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025.  Born in Nash County, NC on May 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Howard Privette and Foye Hodge Privette.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William “Bill” Hill Batchelor.

Genevieve received her early education in the Rocky Mount school system and graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1949.  She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University in 1953.  That same year, she married the love of her life, Bill.  After completing college, she accompanied Bill as he served in the US Army Corp of Engineers in Anchorage, AK.  After his service, they returned home to Rocky Mount, where they would raise their family and build a life together.  Genevieve was an active member of her community.  She was a devoted lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount and faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. She was also a past member of the Junior Guild, the Worthwhile Study Club, the Twentieth Century Study Club, and Benvenue Country Club.  Above all, Genevieve was a loving mother and grandmother whose gentle spirit, warm heart, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

  1. I remember when I started at Brekenridge and I made the mistake of putting her brakes on her wheelchair, she was not happy with me lol.. months go by and I catch her going down the wrong hall so I got closer gently grabbed the handle of her wheelchair to stop her, I got in front of her to tell her she was going the wrong way but before I could get a word out she looks at me and says ” what Big Momma” from that day on I was her Big Momma and she was my Little Momma; as I would always tell her at the end of my shift ” I love ya, she respond with a ” yeaaaa” or blow me a kiss… Little Momma take your rest, job well done.
    Love ya,
    Big Momma

    • Little Momma was quick with the nicknames. We’re so glad you and your whole team were part of her life and there when she needed help the most.
      Sincerest thanks,
      The whole Little Momma family.

  2. Bob and Brad. It was a real blessing being your parents next door neighbor for over 30 years. Ruth and I have many special memories of your
Mother and father. It will not be the same around here without them.
We are praying for your family as
You go through this difficult time.

  3. I knew Mrs. Batchelor from 2011 to 2017 when I was dating Brad her son. She always made me feel welcomed in her home and life. I called her a friend and loved her. I use to tell her she was a “pistol “! She was one of a kind. Having her in my life for that short period of time made it much better. She will be truly missed. Condolences to all of the family. Rest in peace Mrs. Batchelor. I know you are happy to be with Mr. Batchelor.
