Freddie Nelson Turner

Freddie Nelson Turner, Sr., age 77, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Edgecombe County on August 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Jacob "Jake" Turner and Pauline Jones Turner. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Earl Turner, Leroy Turner, and Billy Richard Turner; and sister, Betty Turner Crooker. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was a devoted family man. An avid outdoorsman, Freddie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Proctors Chapel Baptist Church. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Lois Taylor Turner; sons, Freddie Nelson Turner, Jr. and wife Vivian of Rocky Mount and Randall Scott Turner of Garner; grandchildren, Sara T. Whitley (Al) of Garner and Kelsey Lee Turner of Rocky Mount; step-grandchildren, Daniel Hill and Emily Hill; and great-granddaughter, Emma Faith Whitley. Freddie will also be remembered by his sisters, Pauline T. Joyner of Rocky Mount, Peggy T. Ellison of Nashville, Rose T. Carroll of Rocky Mount and Melva T. Carpenter (Bruce) of Rocky Mount; brother, Ray Turner (Denise) of Pinetops; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Freddie's life will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Cooper officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00pm prior to the service. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Proctors Chapel Baptist Church, 2917 Old Wilson Road, Rocky Mount NC 27801. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
