Edward “Ed” Joyner Powell

ROCKY MOUNT - Edward Joyner Powell, Sr., age 90, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017. Born in Halifax County, NC on April 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Gaston Edward Powell and Myrean Rose Crawley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane Andrews Powell; son, Capt. Jerry Powell; great-grandson, Kyle Drake; and brother, Joseph John Powell. Ed was an active member of Englewood United Methodist Church. His family was most important to him and enjoyed spending time with them. Ed was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and the best grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Edward Joyner Powell, Jr. and wife, Sue, of Hurdle Mills; Steve Powell and wife, Wanda, of Rocky Mount; and Craig Powell and wife, Ellis, of Red Oak; daughter, Martha Powell Moose of Rocky Mount; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Powell of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ivey Rollins Powell of Rocky Mount. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount with the Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
